About ChatPrep

A free, friendly walk-through that helps anyone — not just tech people — set up ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini to work the way they think.

Why does this exist?

AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini work much better when you tell them a little about yourself. But the place to do that is buried in a settings menu, the input box is intimidating, and most guides assume you already know what to write. So most people never bother.

ChatPrep is the gentle middle step. Five quick questions, some plain-English buttons, and at the end you get a piece of text you can paste into the right spot on each service. No accounts. Nothing to install. Nothing for us to sell.

Who made this?

I'm Ryan Thompson, an MBA student at UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business and a former Marine. I built this on a weekend because my parents and grandparents kept asking me how to "make ChatGPT do that thing you do," and there was no good place to send them.

This is not a startup. There is no team, no investors, no marketing budget. If it disappears one day, it'll be because I forgot to renew the domain.

How does it stay free?

Hosting is free (Cloudflare's static-asset tier covers any traffic this site is likely to see). The domain costs about ten dollars a year. There are no costs to recover, so there are no ads, no upsells, and no tracking.

If the site ever needs anything more, you'll see a single line near the footer asking — never a popup, never gating the wizard.

What does it not do?

See the privacy page for more.

Found a problem? Have an idea?

The whole site is open source. The code is on GitHub — open an issue, suggest an edit, or just take it and make your own version. The license is MIT.

What about translations?

For now the site is English-only. The architecture is set up to support other languages — every word you see comes from a single text file (data/copy.json) — so a volunteer translator can add a language without touching any code. If you'd like to translate it into your language, please open a GitHub issue.
